Maple Tree Place, Williston, VT

Maple Tree Place is a 72-acre mixed-use project in Williston, Vermont, six miles east of Burlington. The project program includes 300,000 square feet of retail space and 250,000 square feet of commercial space. In addition to retail use, the project includes rental housing, a supermarket, offices, cinema, restaurants, parks, recreation space, and pedestrian paths. The goal of the Town has been to preserve the scale and historic nature of Williston village and to allow growth to take place adjacent to Interstate I-89, in the Tafts Corner Commercial District.

The Burley Partnership produced a design that satisfied the goals of both the Town and the project developer. A Green, surrounded by two-story brick buildings for shops and offices, is the heart of the project and conveys a sense of permanence. Ground floor shops are arcaded for weather protection and office space is on the second floor. A ten-screen cinema is also on the second floor, thereby freeing pedestrian level space for shops and restaurants.
