Private Residence, VermontThe wooded site is on the edge of a steep bank and overlooks forested mountain slopes and a stream below. An entrance drive circles in front of the house, which is divided into three sections: a garage wing, a central wing with second floor guest space, and a master bedroom wing that also includes a studio and family room on a lower level. Glass links connect the three sections and provide views through the house and into the forest. The entrance is from a central porch. Hipped roofs are covered by cedar shakes and wide horizontal boards provide the wall finish. All of the finishes are natural wood. Roof slopes are exposed in the Living Room, the glass links, and a screened porch, and are finished in Western Hemlock and Fir. On the mountain view side, virtually all of the walls are glass and the kitchen-dining areas open to a broad deck. Smaller decks are notched into the corners of the Living Room and Master Bedroom. |
